Wellbeing - 5 ways to detach and reconnect.

In a world that is always connected, it’s so important to slow down to recharge – especially when you have a family – for their sake just as much as yours.

This is what works for me.

Reading.

It’s my chance to switch off, escape and forget about it all.

I’ve just finished ‘Eat, Drink, Nap’ by Soho House and I’m awaiting the delivery of the follow up, ‘Morning, Noon, Night’.

It’s been a great source of inspiration in the pursuit of buying our holiday let (our next venture – more on this soon).

Sleep.

This is easier said than done with children and their unpredictable sleep patterns but I do all that I can so, when I do get into bed, it’s conducive to sleep. No phones. Candles, always Evermore. And ‘It Work’s’ hair & pillow spray.

When we designed our bedroom, our vision was a plywood Alpine retreat.

We wanted it to feel more like a hotel than a conventional bedroom.

It is our sanctuary. Well it is until we’re joined by our ‘star-fishing monkey’ Stanley in the mornings.

Treat.

Every once in a while I treat myself. It doesn’t have to be big – a bath, some flowers, a cup of my favourite coffee, a new moisturiser.

It’s easy to prioritise family over yourself and feel guilty if you make time for yourself.

But we work hard, so every now and then I do indulge in a treat. I particularly love the new collection by Compagnie De Provence. It smells heavenly and I have one tube at work and always apply before I go to bed.

I only surround myself with products that do what they say and that make me feel good using them.

Laugh.

Spending time with friends and family, putting your phone down, really listening and laughing hard.

It’s the best remedy after a tough day. And, the best bit, it’s totally free.

Control.

I appreciate there’s a certain sense of irony in the title when the post is about wellbeing, but I decided to change the direction of Nor–Folk last year and pursue what I love. It has been the best decision I’ve ever taken.

As I’ve said many times before, find a job you love and never work again.

I’d love to know what you do to relax and recharge.
