Clerkenwell Design Week.

Norfolk is a beautiful county, but you can’t beat our capital city, London, for design and innovation. Every year, I try to visit Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) and London Design Festival (LDF).

This year, I only had a brief window to visit CDW on the last day. Wandering around Design Fields, I coincidentally bumped into one of the women behind lifestyle agency, Tokola, a business I had been speaking with before the trip, and have worked with since.

One of the stand out pieces I found appeared to be corrugated felt but was actually soundproofing (in the form of sheets). Living in an apartment, I’ve spent hours researching methods of how to prevent noise from neighbours but hadn’t stumbled across anything that looked good and also had eco-credentials!

I’m a huge advocate of social media and this demonstrates the point of how it can be so useful. I shared a photo the morning of the trip to say I was heading to London. My friend, whom I wasn’t aware was exhibiting, saw it and sent me a text to invite me to see her space. Her business is called par avion, which she runs with her husband Simon. Together, they design and find local craftsman to create their beautiful stools. As I arrived they had just met a world famous designer who had just bought several stools for his own personal use. I’m not one to name drop.

It really was a visual feast, and after the short visit, I’m determined to span a weekend to take in LDF in September.
