Bread Source.

Our business and its name, Nor–Folk, was born out of a desire to celebrate the people and their crafts in our county, Norfolk. So it stands to reason I'm often asked to share my favourite spots. This year I decided I'd spend more time curating our favourite places to go, see and eat. Starting with our friends at Bread Source.

Bread Source is run by Steven Winter, who we’ve known since 2009 when we designed a visual indentity for his first business, Dozen Artisan Bakery. Today, he has his own mill in Horsham Saint Faiths, where he and his team produce bread and viennoiserie daily for weekly markets, cafes, delis, hotels and his very own bricks and mortar stores in market town Aylsham and Upper St Giles in Norwich city centre.

We find ourselves in Bread Source a little too often. They’ve recently introduced a barista and opened the outside space – a cosy and quiet courtyard. We usually visit as a family but it’s also a great informal space for meetings or just general people watching.

I can highly recommend the almond croissant dipped in chocolate but you will have to get there early in the morning – they are very popular. Whilst it’s not the healthiest breakfast option, I believe that everything in moderation or, as the Swedes believe, lagom.

The taste of what I’m eating is just as important as the surrounds and the experience. Bread Source wholeheartedly delivers on both counts. Simple paired back interiors, neutral Farrow & Ball hues, stripped floorboards and smooth sounds to indulge by.

I love the creative use of the proving baskets as plant holders next to the iconic Plumen bulbs.

Simplicity and creativity at its best.

Bread Source sell selected Nor–Folk homewares. They are open Tuesday to Saturday and are located on 93 Upper St Giles St, Norwich NR2 1AB
