Porteous' Studio.
As a family, we’ve got a real thirst for wanderlust. And, for us, where we lay our hat, is just as important as the area we’re exploring.
I’m a real researcher.
I spend hours leafing through magazines and often get lost online discovering places to go and houses to stay in. I can’t remember how I first found Porteous’ Studio but I loved everything about it.
I was immediately struck by the quality of the craftsmanship and how intelligently the space was designed.
It’s sophisticated and restrained design.
Porteous’ Studio is located in the shadows of Edinburgh Castle – nestled behind the buzzing Grassmarket streets.
When we arrived, we were welcomed by the warm golden glow from the building. It looked so cosy and inviting.
Before our stay, I’d been in contact with Eilidh and we’d agreed a plan – I’d get Stanley to sleep and then her and Jack would pop over for a wee drink. We had an immediate connection with the couple and their outlook and approach to design. Our wee drink culminated in testing spirits into the early hours and a kind invitation to a seminar the following morning.
You couldn’t ask for more hospitable hosts.
Over the course of the evening we learned more about Eilidh and Jack’s conversion from a commercial to residential dwelling. It was an inspiring journey and one in which has helped shaped our thinking for our next venture.
We look forward to returning to Edinburgh later in the year and a few more drinks with inspiring company.
