The simple two piece.
I’ve always been athletic, if not a bit muscular – it's not a conscious choice – I’m a tom boy and I'm always on the go. But after having Stanley I didn't feel as confident or look quite the same as before. It really doesn’t matter what anyone says to you, you have to feel right in your own skin and learn to accept yourself.
For the three summers following Stanley’s birth I covered up and wore swimsuits at the beach but, this year, having discovered Bulgarian brand 05 Studio and their modest two piece, I made the leap. This high waisted, high neck pairing is the perfect compromise and bridge for me getting my confidence back for the beach (during our recent holiday to the Algarve).
The ‘effortless’ two piece can be used as both underwear and swimwear and I love its beautiful minimal simplicity.
I also wore minimalist jewellery from Lines & Current (specifically their earrings and bangle). As a rule, I only wear silver or ironised silver jewellery and these two pieces were just enough to make the look feel a bit more sophisticated – especially when enjoying lunch at a beachside cafe.
I do want to make clear that I’m not suggesting anyone needs to, or should feel obliged to cover up following the birth of a child but, if you’re not feeling body confident, like me, a high waisted two piece might just be the answer.
I firmly believe if you’re happy in what you’re wearing, you’re more relaxed and, in turn, confident in yourself.
