Don't judge a book by its cover.
When we began the renovation I had a vision but I also had very tight budgets.
I love that IKEA can make furnishing affordable for most but it’s also a shame to see an ever globalised design world and the same pieces in every territory. It is inevitable in a digital age but I was clear I didn't want to look like an IKEA brochure, we wanted to add some touches to create something unique. And like most people I didn’t have the budgets for Linget Roset. Also, practically, I wanted to have a robust sofa but with interchangeable covers.
I was working in collaboration with Bemz and the process was very easy. From their website I selected a range of colours – the cabin’s colour palette is earthy tones.
Then in daylight I took the swatches to the cabin and compared against the surrounds. I selected Rosendal Pure Washed Linen - Sage Brown and picked the configuration that reflected our sofa.
Above, our current living room.
Below, as it was before.
The covers arrived and it was as simple as you’d imagine.
The change of covers absolutely transformed the space – to most, it’s impossible to tell it’s an IKEA sofa. I particularly like how the valance meets the floor, meaning dust doesn’t accumulate underneath.
As a huge fan of Bemz, I really loved the new cord covers in conjunction with Apartment Therapy, well worth a look.

We got the keys for Studio Inn on 1st November and we opened the doors after just three weeks of frantic transformation.
