The accidental photographer.
I started documenting our lives on Instagram when our son, Stanley, was born (just snaps from my iPhone). Then, for Christmas 2014, Bobby bought me a Nikon DSLR. To say I was ungrateful would be an understatement! I was so busy having just launched Nor-Folk – plus I hadn’t picked up a proper camera since I was at art school! Reluctantly I accepted Bobby’s other gift of two hours tuition with photographer Tatum Reid. Tatum soon refreshed me on the basics/fundamentals. From then on, I was hooked and have photographed (almost) everything in our lives ever since.
The following Christmas I bought a specialist Nikon portraiture lens, of which I’ve used for the campaign pictured here. Bobby’s photos of me shooting the models is with my brand new Fuji X-T1 which has a 16-55mm lens. I won’t use all of this post raving about it, but it is brilliant! Plus it allows me to send via wifi low-res images to my iPhone, perfect for sharing on the go.

Both cameras, whilst still relatively basic, give me enough scope for what I need for my shoots. Everyone approaches photography differently, however, being a graphic designer by trade, I shoot all of my portraiture with a strong grid approach. When it comes to finding models, I look for someone with great proportions, an interesting face and a degree of self assurance. Harry & Chiara are both models in Norwich and regularly work in London. The location for this shoot is in a Norwich car park – I wanted a back drop that was neutral whilst giving context. You can view more of the shoot here.
We are looking for a family, ideally with siblings for a photo shoot to take place in Norwich within the next week or two. You can read more details via our Instagram.
Becoming a photographer was not planned but shooting friends, models and our home is so rewarding. Even better that I get to do this for a living. I feel very blessed.
