No British family holiday is complete without visiting the local tourist attractions. I had the benefit, and inside knowledge, of having already visited several as a child, but I was curious to see how they'd changed over some twenty years!

A Full House.

If you spoke to the twenty year old Fiona, she couldn’t imagine anything more unappealing than a holiday with parents or, worse still, the boyfriend’s folks. But, once I became a mum, it all changed – I had a huge newfound respect and appreciation for my own parents and my in-laws.

Casa Modesta – a family affair.

Latitude – a family festival.

Before Stanley was born we camped at Latitude in 2010 and 2012. My memories are of total excess, partying into the early hours and waking up after lunch. So when we returned this weekend it was, of course, a little different. This time, as a family, we were ready to see the other side of Latitude and give Stanley a taste for festival life...

King of the (Norwich) Castle.

From our living room window we often observe the Norwich skyline and the iconic landmark, Norwich Castle. Each year in July it is back-lit and beautifully illuminated by the Lord Mayor’s spectacular firework display.

A lot has changed in the nine years since I graduated. My beloved art school is officially a university and my course is now called Graphic Communication. But there’s one thing that hasn’t changed and that’s the buzz that surrounds the end of year degree show.

Elegance on two wheels.

Two years ago we visited Copenhagen for the first time, and, 6 months ago we explored Denmark’s second city (and this year’s city of culture) Aarhus. It is fair to say that these two Danish cities had a profound effect on me and in particular changed my view of the humble push bike.

The smart tom boy.

I’m what society calls a ‘tom boy’. And, to be honest, I always have been. I don’t think that makes me any less of a woman. So here is my big admission – I like comfort. When I’m comfortable, I feel happier. When I’m happier, I’m more productive.I dabbled with more formal wear for meetings and it wasn’t for me. I’d always sit awkwardly.

Staycation.

Eight years ago today, Bobby and I officially became an ‘item’. Traditionally, we’d celebrate our anniversary by exploring a new city (Barcelona, Amsterdam and Oslo to name a few). Enter into the frame Stanley (in 2013) and our anniversaries took on an entirely different look and feel. For the first few years, we stayed in Norwich and celebrated with a meal out. So, sticking to my new year’s resolution – to embrace life and enjoy more time as a family, we decided we’d opt for a staycation. So, when Bobby mentioned a friend had an Eco Barn in Winterton (our favourite Norfolk beach), our minds were made up.

Stanley’s very first piece of clothing was a Bobo Choses, ‘B’ vest.He wore it home from hospital when he was born. Today, it sits framed and displayed in our hallway.
